SESSION TITLE

Simplifying and Reducing the Cost of Compliance

SCHEDULE

Check In:
11:30 a.m - 12:00 a.m.
Lunch & Session:
12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

DESCRIPTION

Surveys galore, and most likely your own experiences, show that the vast majority of companies and executives believe that the cost of complying with the Sarbanes-Oxley legislation outweigh its benefits.  The challenge for most companies is coming up with solutions to both reducing the cost and maintaining or even improving the quality of internal control and the assessment process.  To accomplish both, companies must transition their Sarbanes 404 projects into a sustainable, internal control  and compliance process.  We’ll examine some of the changes and tools available to help drive this transition, including:

  • Establishing compliance program goals
  • Organization structure and responsibilities
  • Risk based scope definition
  • Change recognition and management
  • Compliance technology
  • The merging of 302 and 404 processes

SPEAKER

Tony Samer is an Associate Director in Protiviti’s San Francisco office, where he has provided risk management consulting and technology audit services to clients in a variety of industries for over 5 years. His primary focus is IT audit/Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, and the evaluation and improvement of security and control design related to applications and databases.   Recently, Tony has worked with over 15 companies in their initial and ongoing Sarbanes-Oxley compliance efforts.  He also serves as a West Coast lead for Protiviti's Application Control Effectiveness products and IT audit.  Tony has given a number of local and national presentations on a variety of technology subject, most notably Sarbanes-Oxley compliance strategies, and the role of technology in that effort.
