Beyond Checklists: Auditing IT Change Management Workshop

DESCRIPTION

Effective change controls are foundational to any IT control environment, and considerable guidance on auditing change controls exist. However, IT auditors continue to face several challenges:

  1. Much of the audit guidance is in the form of checklists, and understanding which control activities are the most important is often lost.
  2. Much of the guidance written pre-dates research that shows certain change control activities are not only foundational to reducing business risk, but also provide substantial business effectiveness and efficiency benefits as well.
  3. Auditors may not be adequately equipped to effectively challenge IT management and the answers they provide around change control issues.


This 2 hour workshop is composed of three parts: an opener where participants convey the questions they would use to audit change management, a lecture component, followed by a session to reflect on the questions from the first part based on the material presented in the lecture.

INSTRUCTOR

Michael Reznick, CISA is Senior Systems Engineer for the California & Arizona Tripwire, Inc.

Michael Reznick is a Certified Information Systems Auditor and serves as Tripwire’s Senior Systems Engineer for California and Arizona. Prior to joining Tripwire, Michael held pre-sales, consulting, and training positions with IBM/Rational Software; from 1985-1999 Michael held a wide range of software development positions. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1985 with dual B.S. degrees in Engineering (Computer Science) and Psychology.
